Why There Are No Scores Yet

Reviews appear when a publisher sends code to outlets and sets an embargo. S-GAME has announced no embargo date, no review copies have surfaced publicly, and there is no Metacritic or OpenCritic average to read yet.

For a late-October release, embargoes typically lift somewhere between a week before launch and launch day itself, but that is an industry pattern and not a statement about this game. This wiki will not convert it into a predicted date.

What Is Known Instead

Two kinds of signal exist, and neither is a review.

Anticipation metrics. Phantom Blade Zero passed one million Steam wishlists within fifteen days of its December 2025 date announcement. It won Most Anticipated Game at the UCG Game Awards 2024 and again at the Ultra Game Awards 2025, and was nominated for Phenomenon of the Year.

Hands-on impressions. The game has been playable at events since 2024, including S-GAME's own S-PARTY in Beijing on July 26–27, 2025. Those produced press impressions of specific builds, not verdicts on the finished game. Hands-on history.

Is Phantom Blade Zero Worth Buying?

The honest pre-launch answer has three parts.

What is confirmed and substantial: 30+ main weapons and 25 Phantom Edges, three difficulty modes including a story-focused tier, eight endings, New Game Plus, and combat built with action director Kenji Tanigaki, combat director Yang Liu and Donnie Yen.

What is unverified: whether it holds together across a full playthrough. Pacing, encounter variety and technical performance are exactly the things trailers cannot show and reviews exist to test.

What reduces the risk: on PC, both Steam and Epic have refund windows. On PS5, digital refunds are considerably narrower once a game is downloaded. There is no demo. Pricing.

How to Read Launch-Week Scores

Two cautions worth holding when the embargo does lift. First, a game with three difficulty modes will be reviewed on whichever tier the critic chose, and Hellwalker's adaptive AI produces a materially different experience from Wayfarer — so a difficulty disclosure in a review is more informative than its score.

Second, PC and PS5 versions launch simultaneously but will not perform identically. Technical criticism attached to one platform does not transfer to the other, and it is the area where launch-day and post-patch impressions diverge most. PC specs.
